Te Aratai College Sport

Sport Contract 2025

This sports contract is for the entire time a student is at Te Aratai College unless otherwise stated. All students and whānau are to sign, even if the child is not considering playing an extra-curricular sport. Being a member of a Te Aratai College sports team carries with it a number of responsibilities. Player (Kaitākaro) and Whānau agree to:

  1. Demonstrate the ngā uara (values) of Te Aratai College: Whanaungatanga (positive relationships with others), Rangatiratanga (leadership, agency), Manaakitanga (respect, service and care towards others), Turangawaewae (identity and sense of belonging) This is required at all times: training, going to sport, while competing, on the sidelines, and returning from sport.

  2. Attend school regularly and have at least 80% justified attendance, below this rate results in not being able to play. Students also need to attend school on the day of the sports game or they are unable to play. Attendance will be checked weekly and coaches notified by Head of Sport, Mr Jesse Harding.

  3. Be committed to your practice times and games. If you are unable to attend a practise or game, you are to communicate this either kanohi ki te kanohi (face to face) or via e-mail to your coach/ manager before the game/ practise. 

  4. Return all sports gear that has been issued to you in the condition it was issued as soon as the season has finished. Pay a $50 fee for each uniform item lost or damaged. 

  5. Pay the costs involved for the sport before the season has finished. 

  6. Understanding that if the student is stood down or suspended while the team has a game, they are unable to play.

  7. It is your role to play fair, be kind and respectful to your team, the other team, supporters, the referee and your coach and managers. You are required to play within the rules and demonstrate behaviour that will be a good reflection on Te Aratai College. If this is not how you have played, a hui will need to happen with Mr Harding involving your whānau, before you are able to play again.

  8. I understand that Te Aratai College will look after each student during sport through police vetted people, all drivers having a full drivers license and all driving will be in vehicles that have warrants and registration up to date.  

  9. If a serious injuries happens during a game or practice, Te Aratai College hands over responsibility to you, the whānau, after contact has been made, through a phone call to one of the 3 contacts listed on Kamar or to the Paramedics in the Ambulance. 

  10. Any personal items (Phones, chromebooks etc) taken to sporting events either at Te Aratai College or another venue, is the responsibility of the player and not the school.

  11. Students and Whānau agree that photos/ videos of the student may be used for promotional material.
