How Sport Works for Year 9-13

Summer Length of season:

In Term one, summer sport lasts about 6 weeks. Not all sport is done on the same day so it is possible for students to particpate in more than one sport, if they are on different days. Please see more detailed info on each summer sport towards the end of this document.

Winter Length of season with days and times

Over Term 2 and Term 3, Winter Sport lasts around 12-13 weeks. Not all winter sport is on the same day, so it is possible for students to participate in more than one sport, if they are on different days. Please see more detailed info on each winter sport at the end of this document.

How to sign up

Information about sport trials/ training will be sent via school email to students and also posted outside of Te Kuru (The gym). Please follow our social media accounts on Facebook and Instagram for this info. If you are unsure, please see Jade Cull (sport coordinator) in her office inside of Te Kuru (gym).

Uniform

For sport at Te Aratai College, the PE Uniform is the sport uniform, with the exception of Rugby/ League/ Fencing and Surfing. So please ensure you have this if you are wanting to participate in sport at Te Aratai. This can be purchased from the uniform shop at school. Some of our top teams or teams on tournaments, will wear the Blue/ Green Singlets/ shorts.

Costs/ Payment

Sport costs money. Entry Fees, Venues fees, transport fees, admin fees and equipment fees all add up quickly. we take pride in the fact we offer costs as low as possible to ensure we can participate in sport. It is important payment is made via payment at the front office or via online banking. If a student makes a team, information of payment will be sent via email to the whānau/ caregivers.

Training

Training will be different for each sport/ team. Some teams may train before, during or after school. Some teams may not be able to train if they do not have a coach available. Coaches/ Managers/ Drivers Sport at Te Aratai is dependant on having coaches/ managers and drivers. If we do not have an adult for the sport, we are not able to participate. Please let Jade Cull know if you are available to support with driving/ managing/ coaching.
