2022 has proved to be a year of Boys 1st XI cricket records being eclipsed. Thanks to the work of Will Clarke we know that:
The boys winning the second grade championship is the 8th time TGS has done so and means the team will compete in their 72nd season of Premier grade cricket.
There were 5 debutants to the team this year. The latest player to debut is Jack Jones #613. His dad, Richard Jones, was #421.
The team notched up wins against long term rivals Kings College & St Kentigern College - the first time these results have been recorded for decades.
New record team batting totals were recorded against Whangarei and Botany Downs. The game against Whangarei Boys was a pre-season fixutre and set the tone for many batting records to fall.
The team's highest score of the season was 323 against Selwyn - the 16th highest score of all time. In a T20, also against Selwyn. Christian Scott recorded the highest score for TGS v Selwyn with 123.
Showing the depth of the team's batting four of the top five 10th wicket partnerships ever recorded occurred in 2022. Jasper Moy and Liam Arthur Hunt v Howick (41 runs = 2nd best), Henry Blanchard and Jasper Moy v Rangitoto (40 runs = 3rd best), Henry Blanchard and Jasper Moy v Rangitoto (38 runs = 4th best), Liam Arthur Hunt and Jasper Moy v Selwyn (30 runs = 5th best).
Daniel Middleton recorded the highest score ever for TGS v Mt Roskill with 66*.
Daniel Middleton (593), Freddy Birch (508), and Christian Scott (801) marks the first time three different players have passed 500 runs in a season.
To top it off Christian Scott's 801 is the most runs scored in a season at TGS ever, surpassing Bert Sutcliffe’s 745 in 1942.
