We provide a positive, safe, fun  and engaging learning experience and opportunities in kaupapa waka with the motive of enhancing already established leaders within schools and the wider community, 

The modes of delivery will be through  Mātātoa School Programme. After School Activations, Community Activations and wānanga. Engaging in theory and practical activities to enhance knowledge about the Māori worldview, hone in on discipline skills as well as building character.​​​​​​​

    All participants will have an understanding and acquire knowledge surrounding:

    • Tikanga, Health and safety aspects associated with kaupapa waka. Ie, Buddy System, capsize drills. Swim 50+metres, health issues, tikanga hoe.
    • The fundamentals and parts of a hoe and how to use it. - Ähei, huringa, salutes, whakamatautau land and sea. Roles and responsibilities of kaihoe, kaiurungi, kaihautu, tohunga waka karakia, kaikaranga, kaimihi, poumaru, pouuta kaitautoko.
    • The parts, sections and responsibilities of each section of the waka. ​​​​​​​
    • Te reo a waka - ngeri, haka, waiata, karakia, karanga, whakamihi
    • Knowledge of evolution of different waka over time
    • Significance of different waka occasion.
    • Identify/read the environment to influence decision making during marine activities
    • How kaupapa waka influenced past, present, future kaihoe kaumoana
