Raised in Tairāwhiti Gisborne, Kaua's passion for coaching stems from a deep-seated desire to empower young individuals through sport. As a child, Kaua found solace and freedom on the rugby and touch rugby fields. Her journey into coaching began with touch rugby at St Peters in Cambridge, where she honed her skills before transitioning to coaching rugby in New Zealand and overseas.
Crystal's experience playing in the Waikato Open Women's team in the mid-2000s provided her with invaluable insights into the game, which she now imparts as the head coach of the Chiefs Manawa team. Her coaching journey exemplifies the intersection of brutality and beauty - the resilience forged through hardships and the profound connections fostered through sport.
