The U16 girl’s was our next game on Day 1. Game 1 for the girls was against the NSWCCC side inside the stadium and they definitely lived up to the hype. With great confidence and execution we saw the NZ girls get an early lead against the NSWCCC side, but like all good teams we saw the NSWCCC side finish the half strongly to end up tied with NZ 2-2. After the half we saw some great confidence again from our New Zealand girls managing to get out to a 3-point lead. But much the same as the first half we saw the NSWCCC side come back again, but with some great grit and determination our girls put in some great defensive pressure and held on to a very exciting 6-5 win. (HT 2-2, FT 5-6. Try Scorers: #2, #4, #4, #5, #11, #12).
The final game of the day for our teams saw the girls back in action. This time our girls, like the boys, were up against the other state as well QSST. The girls coming off a hard fought win in game 1 were up against it in game 2. With both sides having early completion errors the game was very much up the taking. The New Zealand girls were giving it their all but were battling to find any gaps or holes in this very well drilled and stacked QSST team. Supremacy of the field in the first half ended up taking its toll on the New Zealand girls with the QSST running out to a 7-0 lead. Attitude was key to the second half for our girls and it showed in a never die attitude with the girls consistently coming at the QSST team. Through constant effort the girls were giving it their all to find a crack in the QSST defensive system, unfortunately for the girls they were unable to find this crack and went down to a very well skilled and drilled QSST in a final touch down score of 15-0 (HT 7-0, FT 15-0).
