WaiBOP’s Nadia Murrihy Browning elected as Chair of NZMO

WaiBOP Youth Referee Development Co-ordinator Nadia Murrihy Browning was elected to Chair the NZMO (New Zealand Match Officials) Board at their recent AGM.

The NZMO (New Zealand Match Officials) represents match officials (Referees, Assistant Referees and Assessors) from New Zealand. They offer free membership to all registered match officials in New Zealand.

The board have voting rights at the NZ Football Annual Congress and are involved in conversations between stakeholders and NZF around the strategic direction of NZF.

The Board currently has three elected members, and two co-opted members, with members are from 4 of the 6 federations. The other current memebrs of the board are Matthew Conger (two times Men's World Cup referee), Edward Cook (FIFA assistant and A-league assistant referee), Isaac Trevis (FIFA assistant referee and A-League assistant referee) and Calvin Berg (FIFA referee).

This is Murrihy Browning’s second term on the Board, having been elected in 2022.

Murrihy Browning started playing football at 5. After a string of injuries, she moved into refereeing in her 20s. 

She was a FIFA Assistant Referee from 2013-2015, and a FIFA Referee from 2017 through to 2022. 

Her refereeing career has seen extensive travel in the Pacific Islands - travelling to 7 out of the 11 OFC nations, as well as China (Youth Summer Olympics, 2014) and the USA (Dallas Cup, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2019). 

She has been involved in youth referee development in Hamilton since 2017, and employed by WaiBOP Football since 2019.

She runs the Youth Referee Academy in Hamilton, as well as continuing to referee community football and Futsal Superleague. 

She is looking forward to the challenge of taking on the role of Chair, and ensuring the voice of referees are represented at a national level.
