Playing sport for Waimea College at any level is considered a privilege and in recognition of this, student accountability and academic achievement is of high importance.
Attendance
The attendance record of the students leading up to and including the season and/or tournament they are intending to play in, needs not to be of concern (unless there are circumstances that can be legitimately explained). If the attendance standard is not met and no reasonable explanation is offered the student will be informed that they will be given a warning and monitored closely.
Over Commitment
We urge parents and coaches to monitor the sporting workload that each student undertakes. The training and playing demands of participating in upwards of two ‘A’ or ‘1st’ Grade sports at the same time can be daunting. Our school prioritises academic achievement first, if sporting participation may be detrimental to this then we ask that parents intervene. The school will act to contact parents/caregivers if staff witness worrying signs of athlete over commitment and associated symptoms. The wellbeing of the students is always the priority.
