Rugby at Wellington College is run by the Wellington College Rugby (WC Rugby) which was established in 1877 and is one of the oldest of its kind in the country.
HISTORY: Wellington College is a very proud and traditional NZ rugby school. The current 1st XV are very competitive in the local competition. The 1st XV also compete in the oldest secondary school rugby tournament, the Quadrangular Tournament. 2023 saw us both host and win Quad . Wellington College also competed in the first ever recorded secondary schools match against Nelson College. 2023 saw an increase in player numbers with us fielding 12 teams.
TRAINING: Most teams train twice a week. A summer rugby academy begins in Term 4 and runs through the summer holidays and up until the start of the new season.
SUMMER TRAINING: Tuesdays and Fridays 3.30-5pm (on the turf) for February. Anyone can attend, no registration needed.
UNIFORM:
Black jersey, mouth guard and sock tape are provided for the season.
White shorts, Black socks with yellow hoop - to be purchased.
