Sport

Waiopehu College has a strong sporting tradition and we encourage all of our students to participate in sport whether it be competitive or socially.  We have a fantastic range of sports on offer where students can develop confidence, leadership and technical skills.

We hold sport in an extremely high regard as we see the positive impact it can have on a young persons life.  The way we try and deliver our sport at Waiopehu is 'coach the person, not the athlete'.  Every student is different, and everyone learns differently, so we approach all our sports in this way and in the hope of doing so, we will develop very well repected, empathic and considerate student athletes.  Sport has proven to have a positive effect on young people's mental and physical wellbeing as well as developing resilience and self esteem.

Waiopehu College believes sport can play a huge role in any young person's life and is proven to have a positive effect on young people’s mental and physical wellbeing.
