Waka Ama


Nau mai, haere mai ki Waka Ama of Te Kāreti Tamatāne o Te Whanagui-a-Tara - Wellington College Waka Ama

Waka Ama is open for all novice and experienced paddlers Years 9 - 13. Each paddler is given the opportunity to develop skills to confidently participate at the Regional Secondary School Waka Ama, with crews also representing the school at the National Secondary School Championships at Lake Tikitapu in March.


Wellington College waka teams train out of the Tunui Waka Ama Club based at Freyberg pool. Coaches from this club will take the teams through the season culminating in nationals at Rotorua. Training will begin in term 4 in preparation for the following season.


COST:  TBC

TRAINING: Twice weekly in term 1 up to nationals

COMPETITION: Teams are made up of 6 paddlers who all work towards paddling in the Wellington Regional Competition, 9 March on Porirua Harbour.  The National Competition is at Lake Tikitapu in Rotorua during Summer Tournament Week 2024

SEASON: Terms 1 and 4
