WCPA Qualifying Criteria for Regional Championships:

To participate at WCPA Regionals, you must:

  • Be a WCPA & NZPF member at the time of setting a total
  • Participate in and set a total at a WCPA competition within the 12 months preceding Regionals (or Regionals the year before).

Note re “qualifying competition” - you must set a total in the event you intend to enter at regionals. For example, to compete 3-lift you must do a qualifying competition as 3-lift. To do bench-only at regionals however, you can do either 3 lift or bench only.

Exceptions are if you participated in and set a total at an IPF competition in the previous 12 months either with another association within NZ or internationally and you are moving back to NZ/WCPA Region. You must provide evidence of this via e-mail and become a WCPA member and then you may participate at WCPA regionals.

QUALIFYING FAQ

I competed in a Novice Competition within the last 12 months, can I enter Regionals?

Provided you become a WCPA member prior to Regionals and you set a total at the novice competition then yes, your novice competition counts as a qualifying competition for Regionals.

What does set a total mean?

To set a total means you had at least one successful lift in each discipline - at least one squat, one bench and one deadlift. If you fail to set a successful lift in each discipline, you did not set a total at that competition. In bench only competitions, you must have one successful bench attempt.

I have competed in a novice or qualifying competition in a different weight class to the one I wish to participate at in regionals, do I need to do another competition?

You may enter a different weight class from the one you participated in at your qualifying competition, however the weight class you enter for Regionals is the weight class you must participate in. If you do not make weight,  you will be a guest lifter - this follows the same principles as NZPF Nationals.
