WEEKDAY PENNANT FINAL- Monday 18th August at Morrinsville

The Weekday Pennant Final was held at Morrinsville, and it was fantastic to see so many players out representing their clubs. A big thank you goes to all the clubs who hosted rounds during the season, and especially to Morrinsville for hosting the final. The course presented beautifully despite the challenges of frosts and plenty of rain.

Thanks are due to Jenny, Leanne and the committee for providing a lovely morning tea and for their organisation throughout, along with Dana for managing draws and results. Appreciation also goes to the kitchen team for the delicious lunch – the hot soup was especially welcome – and to Annilese for her work behind the bar.

After four rounds, the two Tieke teams were locked on 1232 points each, forcing a playoff. The No. 1 players, Lesley Peake (Tieke 1) and Diane Crone (Tieke 2), went head-to-head down the par-5 18th. With plenty of supporters watching from the terrace, both played strong shots into the green. After solid putts, it was Lesley who prevailed, securing the win for Tieke 1 on the first playoff hole.

Prizegiving

• Runner-Up: Tieke 2 – 1232 points

• Winner: Tieke 1 – 1232 points (won on 1st playoff hole)

The day concluded with the scramble, run by Jenny and Leanne, and congratulations went to Morrinsville for winning the day overall – home advantage certainly paid off!

PIRONGIA GOLF CLUB

A big thank you goes to Pirongia Golf Club for hosting our Weekday Pennant Final. Obviously it was cancelled 2 weeks ago for flooding and wind damage and the Monday was also atrocious weather. A big thank you to Green Staff and volunteers who have been busy getting course back playable again. Obviously it has continued to rain off and on which has made it difficult to get out and mow when you want to leading up to final.

Big thank you to Denise and Lynda and their team for organising the morning with morning tea and getting players out to their respective tees in a timely manner.  Thanks to the caterer with a very lovely lunch and the bar staff for a well earned drink at the end of the day.  Many thanks also to Dana for all her organising behind the scenes getting draws organised and communication with the host clubs.  A thanks must also go to all of you players that have represented your club and travelled across the Waikato to compete, without all of you we don’t have a competition.

Congratulations to Matamata, this years Weekday Pennant Winners with a comined Net score of 318.  Team Members: Sheelah Lamb, Faye Mathews, Catherine Brown & Arlene Joe.  This is the first time Matamata has won the pennant.  

Big thank you to Waikare for hosting and organising players tee times and collecting scores after for prizegiving.

The weather wasn't kind in the morning with persistent rain but the afternoon came out nice and ladies were all happy back in clubrooms after as they had dried out by then.

The Nett scores were an indication of the wet.

This year we have 5 teams from the North Zone and 4 Teams from the South Zone to battle it out for the 2023 Weekday Pennant.
