We want all of our players to be good sportswomen
As a club, we believe all players should demonstrate the following 3 sportsmanship qualities:
Fair Play | Respect | Encouragement
Throughout the season our coaches and managers teach our players about good sportsmanship based on these 3 values. Each week, a player who has demonstrated good sportsmanship is recognised as the Sportswoman of the Week and receives a Sportsmanship Certificate and the Team Teddy to keep for the week.
We ask that all parents and supporters show good sportsmanship too
When supporting on the side-lines:
- Give positive support only
- Acknowledge what a player did well, not what they didn’t do well
- Accept all umpire decisions without complaint
- Remember that umpires are volunteers & are doing their best - they might not get it right every time but just like netball players, they will learn from their mistakes and get better each game.
When having conversations with a player after the game, remember that these help to shape their sportsmanship qualities:
- Help them to understand that enjoying each game with their friends is more important than the result
- Encourage them to be humble after a win
- Help them to be graceful when they lose
- Do not look to blame anyone for a loss
Thank you for playing a part in making our players good sportswomen!
