Safe Netball for Children

As the kaitiaki (guardians) of Netball, Gisborne Netball Centre (GNC) is committed to safeguarding the welfare of all children and young people. We recognise the responsibility to promote safe practices that protect children and young people from harm and exploitation while ensuring Netball is kept fun, safe and inclusive for all. As such GNC adopts the Netball New Zealand Safe Netball for Children Policy 2022.  All staff, board members, contractors, and volunteers responsible to GNC and working within our Centre will work together to embrace difference and diversity and respect the rights of children and young people. The intention of this policy is to reduce the likelihood of harm to a child as well as minimising the risk of an allegation or complaint being made.

  • Children and young people’s safety and well-being will always be put first.
  • Children and young people should feel respected, listened to, valued, and encouraged to enjoy and participate in Netball.
  • All children and young people have the right to be free from harm and abuse.
  • Child safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.
  • GNC will guide the Netball community to adopt, implement and promote the well-being of children and young people.

Gisborne Netball Centre may share information with appropriate agencies (such as health and education providers or other agencies involved with your child’s life) if sharing that information may/is likely to protect or improve the safety, health or well-being of the child. Our agency can always legally share information with Oranga Tamariki and the Police.
