The Hawkes Bay Heat have a well-designed curriculum for introducing Flag Football to students ranging from Year 7 to Year 13.

We have experienced, NZAFF certified coaches who have run this curriculum for multiple classes at different schools, including Karamu High School, Hastings Intermediate and Lindisfarne College in Hastings.

Here's what some of the students and teachers had to say about our programme:

Murray and Jordan brought Flag Footy to our school for our Y10 students during their foreign games block. Their lessons were well planned, appropriate and engaging over a five week period. The boys enjoyed the intricate nature of the tactics while developing a different throwing and catching technique.

Murray and Jordan were approachable, jovial yet totally professional in their sessions. Our Y10 lads all enhanced their skills and now have a new appreciation for the game. I highly recommend the programme that they run and would love to have them in against next year.

The flag football sessions were awesome. We started with passing and catching drills and finished by playing proper games. In that time we started to understand what to do, how to do it, why and when. To start we just wanted to throw the ball long but over the PE lessons found out the tactics. The instructors didn’t do too much talking or not enough…just the right amount.

In Y10 PE we did flag football for five weeks. We learnt how to throw the ball and catch using a different technique. The guys that took the sessions were good teachers, we thought they were PE teachers. They played for the HB team so could demonstrate exactly what to do which meant we could copy. At the end we were playing full on games, with short running plays and hail Mary passes. I hope the current Y9 guys get to have them in next year.
