Juniors

Our Junior teams competed in the superleague competition that finished a couple of weeks ago. Our junior club has been the best performed club for a number of years and continues to set the standard at Hawkes Bay junior level. Here is a snapshot of the season.
YEAR 9/10 Colts
Another strong season from these boys finishing equal first with Napier Tech who they will battle with again at the Cricket Camps in January. Some superb individual performances resulted in players from the team being selected for the Hawkes Bay U -15 team that are playing in the CD tournament this week in Levin. Well done boys!

YEAR 8
The Year 8 team have had a wonderful Super League season winning all their games and retaining the title once again outright.
Despite some windy Sundays there were some excellent batting performances with William Clark, Harry Mowat and Baily MacDonald all retiring at 50 at least once. Jack Parker, Charlie Bayly and Guy Reeves were also very consistent with the bat and helped the team get into strong, match winning positions.
The bowling honours were more equally spread but the spin bowling combination of Bailey and Jack Parker turned games into the Havelock teams favour on several occasions.
The boys are now very excited about the Riverbend tournament and all the above boys plus Sam Fergusson and Hunter Lowe  were in the Hastings team that reclaimed the Hastings /Napier Cup and will now be playing in the Regional Representative Tournament to push their claims for Hawke's Bay Under 14s honours in the new year.
YEAR 7
Another strong season for our year 7 team who finished first on run rate in the competition. Notable performances in the team were:
vs. NOBM
Tristan Muldaly 3 overs, 2 maidens, 3 wickets for 1 run
Guy Bayly 2.4 overs, 3 wickets for 3 runs.

vs. CHB
Fred Mowat 52 retired
Harvey Ives 53 retired
Shea Bentley 52 n.o
Dave Willox 3.4 overs, 1 maiden, 3 wickets for 5 runs
vs. Taradale
Guy Bayly 5 overs, 1 maiden, 3 wickets for 14 runs
vs. NOBM
Guy Bayly 2.5  overs, 3 wickets for 8 runs.
Hastings v Napier
Fred Mowat 5.3 overs, 3 wickets for 20 runs
The following players were selected for the Hastings Rep teams:

Selection for Hastings yr 6:
Harvey Ives (c)
Toby Kendon
Guy Bayly

Selection for Hastings Yr 7:

Shea Bentley( c)
Fred Mowat (vc)
Tristan Muldaly
Flora Devonshire
Finn Calder
Dewalt Botha

YEAR 6
A entirely new team this year struggled initially but with many younger year 4 and 5 boys the future looks bright for this team in the next couple of seasons. Keep it up boys!!

Our Junior Club
Havelock North Junior Cricket Club enters teams in the HBC SuperLeague and the Riverbend Road Summer Camps. All these games are limited over format, with many of the players having a chance to play T20 during the camp. Our players wear white; club polos, and caps from coaches. Trials may be held for teams where player numbers are high, and training will be organised on a team by team basis by coaches. Please note however, that we often find that the older boys are so involved with school cricket and other sporting commitments, it can become difficult to organise team practices. From time to time there will be coaching opportunities from both HBC and HNCC, details of these will be posted on the website

CricHQ

New Zealand Cricket  is promoting the use of the CricHQ system to administer all games and affiliated players. Once your child’s details are entered into this system, and official game details uploaded, statistics can be gathered and displayed over his/her playing career! There will no doubt be some teething issues with this process, so please bear with us.

Hawkes Bay Cricket SuperLeague 2015/16

The format for SuperLeague is year level based, with years 9 and 10 being combined. Playing up a level is not recommended by HBC;  even an outstanding  year 8 player will struggle against a good year 10 some of whom will be now playing high school 1st XI!  Playing down alevel will require special dispensation from HBC.

Competitions are:
Year 6
Year 7
Year 8
Year 9/10

The competition will be limited over games, played on Sunday afternoon. The number of games will depend on the entries from other clubs, but hopefully will be around five games. Please note that Rep cricket will still be age based as at 1st September this year and coaches will forward name of players they believe should be considered. Depending on numbers, we hope to field teams in all grades.

Cricket Camp 2016
These camps have been running successfully for many years now, and give our juniors a chance to compete against teams from around the country. Details will be on the HB Cricket website.
Information on the HB Cricket site list the following dates for camps 2015.

All grades are based on Term 4 School Year, 2015 teams.

In the past, we have successfully applied for grants to support our players entering this tournament, however, this funding is becoming more difficult to secure, and the situation becomes unjust when camp teams are made up from different players from SuperLeague teams. To make it fair, and help toward covering the costs, the club will make a charge, the ammount of which is to be confirmed, for camp games

Coaches
Y6 - Matthew Hardgrave
Y7 – Andrew Coyle
Y8 – Mike Devonshire
Y9 - Andy Reeves
Y10 - James Rainger

Havelock North Junior Club Report – AGM 2014
HNJCC have had another successful year. We fielded teams at all levels of the HB Superleague this season. I managed to visit most of the teams at some stage, and it really stood out, the players and parents/supporters, were all having a great time! We were also lucky with weather this season.

We continue to be fortunate with the calibre of parents who step up to coach our juniors. Mike Devonshire took our Y6 team. They had a great season and were very competitive. Considering a number of these players were Y5, the future looks good! Andy Reeves coached the successful Y7 team again, with James Ranger taking on the role of Y8 coach, again with a great win in the final.

This season saw the year group system flow through the whole competition, so we fielded two teams at Y9/10, or colts level, with a number of last year’s U15s still eligible to play. Kim Bone and Dave Taylor coached the older boys who went through unbeaten in this grade, with Maree Ryder and Peter Young guiding our development team. We look forward to these players dominating in the coming season.

At the HB Cricket Prize giving, we collected trophies for wins in the years 7, 8, and Colts Superleague Competitions, continuing our dominance at junior level.

All our teams also performed with distinction throughout the January Camps. Again we fielded teams at all levels, including some of the older boys no longer involved in our junior competition. Under the management of Chris Wallace and Steve Field, we entered a team in the open grade, Y11 to 13, and they had a great week! It is unfortunate that we cannot offer these older players a HN Club competition, though a number had their debut into senior and premier sides, and we are glad to count them as part of our club. I’d like to recognise one of these young men: James Field. James had an outstanding season. He scored over 1000 runs including three centuries. He opened the batting for HBHS 1st XI, has turned out for our Premier men’s side, and represented both Hawkes Bay; top scoring in the U17 CD Tournamant, and Central Districts at the NZ U17 Tournament.

A number of our junior players gained HB Representative Honours and/or, made top school teams. Many of our players have achieved notable milestones in their cricket careers; their first fifty or century, their first 3 or 5 wicket bag, we even had Hamish Hay with a hat trick to match Dad’s!

This year we also recognised players who have been with our junior club for 5 or more seasons. This represents at least 50 games!

2014 Junior Player of the Year was one of our Superleague winning Colts Blue players; Chris Hicks. Chris also scored over 1000 runs this summer, including 220 runs with an average of 110 in Superleague, an unbeaten 100 of 58 balls in a T20 at Y11- 13 camp, 487 runs as opening bat for the Lindisfarne 1st XI including a century against Taradale Senior Men, and 32 runs in two innings for the Prems.
