Taiji 太极

or Tai Chi as it is commonly written, is an ancient exercise to strengthen mind and body. The skills were so valued in ancient China, they became closely guarded family secrets.

Many styles evolved over time and a handful were shared and became globally popular.

Jade Health Taiji focusses on internal body awareness to build mental and bodily strength and balance.

David follows the Yang large frame tradition which has slightly more expansive movements.

Qigong 氣功

Most sessions begin with an 18 posture Qigong, practised alongside Neigong and Song Geng. These are short simplified exercises that are designed to channel life force through awareness of your breathing and movements.

Your Comfort Zone

David Parker has been a Taiji practitioner for over ten years.

He has established a strong following in Tauranga and conducts workshops in other parts of New Zealand periodically.

His philosophy is that you never finish learning the internal arts, you simply develop layers of understanding. He counts himself fortunate, as he puts it  'I  always seem to encounter the right teacher just when I am ready for them'. At present his Sifu is Alan Orr reknowned martial arts teacher.

People come to Taiji for many different reasons, for fun, recreation, as a form of meditation, for the mental discipline and to boost physical awareness. Some also do it to aid recovery from injury or enforced inactivity.

Our classes are relaxed and you can follow at the intensity that suits you. There is no pressure. You can set your own goals for the level you wish to achieve.

Ask for as little or as much guidance as you need.
