Yachting New Zealand Membership Cards replaced with APP


For the 2019/2020 season all our paid members, who had completed all necessary details on their membership application forms, should have received a plastic membership card from Yachting New Zealand (YNZ) to be used as a membership card for the Lake Brunner Yacht Club as well as enabling member discounts at many marine retailers and other benefits through YNZ. 


As we continue our affiliation with YNZ they have informed us that they are making changes to their member card and it will now be a digital card (rather than a plastic card) that will be available through the Yachting New Zealand app. This means that from August all our paid members will be sent an email from YNZ advising them to download the Yachting New Zealand app.  A one-time login and password will be issued and, once you have logged in, the digital card and partner discounts will be available for viewing in the member zone. You won’t need to log in again in future.  As our club’s affiliation with YNZ runs from 1 July – 30 June each year, the card and partner benefits will no longer be visible when they expire on June 30 each year.  The card will be visible again once affiliation has been renewed.


The digital cards which YNZ are issuing will be valid for an affiliation season of 1 July 2020- 30 June 2021.  YNZ are aware that these member cards are to be issued to our list of paid members for the 2019/2020 season (the previous season, in part), but they are issued in good faith to all our existing members.  As our club’s season runs from November – October we will be able to update our list with new members who join during the year, as well as being able to deactivate cards for those members who have not renewed.  Because we are working with a digital platform, these changes can be instantaneous.


As I’m sure you are aware, last year the Lake Brunner Yacht Club opted to use the free membership card service which YNZ offers to all affiliate clubs as a means of providing our members with the discounts and benefits that YNZ offer to all members.  The YNZ card also provided the club with a more efficient and cost effective way to track our members.  It was and still is our intention that it will become a requirement in future that a member be able to produce the digital card when using our club facilities.


For those that do not have a smartphone we are happy to send out one of our old cardboard Lake Brunner Yacht club membership cards, unfortunately these will not entitle you to the YNZ member discounts.  If you do require one of these please let us know on payment of your 2020/2021 subscriptions.
