Club Values

As a member of the Lincoln Netball Club there are certain values that we try to uphold, whether we are a Coach,Team Manager, Player or Supporter. These values encourage character development through sport and have been endorsed by many sport organisations. Character is best described as the type of person you are, what you stand for, and your tendency to do the right thing. Character is revealed by how you behave when no one is watching or when you do not expect to be rewarded. Character is generally associated with behaviour that is kind, trustworthy, honest, faithful and responsible.

The five core values that Lincoln Netball Club encourage are;

*   Commitment   *   Respectfulness   *   Responsibility   *   Caring   *   Honesty   *

  • Commitment

Commitment is about wanting to reach your full potential, gain the respect of your teammates and coaches, and contribute to your team’s success. Commitment is doing the very best that you can and giving 100% effort during training and games whether you are on the court or on the sideline.  It means fully investing yourself in the team – physically, mentally and emotionally.

  • Respectfulness

Respect is best described in the golden rule: treat others as you wish to be treated by them.  Examples of respectful behaviour in sport include using considerate language even when disappointed, speaking without sarcasm or profanity, accepting victory and defeat gracefully. It also means respecting your coach’s decisions, and coaches respecting that the athletes should also be listened to and encouraged.

  • Responsibility

Responsibility involves perseverance and doing the right thing. Responsible coaches and athletes are reliable, and considerate. At Lincoln Netball Club responsibility is about ALWAYS trying your hardest, whether at training or during a game, showing up regularly for practice even when you don’t feel like training, letting your coach know if you are unable to attend, and accepting responsibility for your actions.

  • Caring

Being caring involves compassion, gratitude and empathy. Caring athletes and coaches are gracious in victory and defeat, and acknowledge the contributions of others in their success. Caring athletes play for their TEAM rather than just for themselves. You can show caring behaviour by thanking teammates, coaches, umpires and supporters, and encouraging teammates even when they are struggling.

  • Honesty

Honesty involves being truthful, by speaking and acting consistently and by always doing the right thing. Honesty is about being a TEAM player, and playing fairly within the spirit and rules of the game.
