Umpiring

People often view umpiring as a thankless and tough task. Although it can be challenging, those who umpire thoroughly enjoy it, seeing it as an opportunity to: give back to the game, stay involved in netball, facilitate games effectively, keep fit, personally develop and umpire at the highest possible level.

Want to progress your umpiring?

The first three Awards in umpiring are composed of a theoretical and practical aspect, these are known as the Centre, Zone and NZ Qualifying Awards.

To be considered for a practical assessment, an umpire must first have their theory. The link to the Centre Theory is above. Zone theory will also be online from this year, and there is NZ theory too.

You can sit your Centre Theory at any time, but Zone and NZ theory have a specified time twice a year.

The dates for 2024 Zone and NZ Theory exams are yet to be announced, when they are these will be found below.

Umpire Coaching/Assessing

Netball New Zealand has a training and accreditation system for Umpire Coaches/Assessors, and Coach Assessors complete annual training to ensure they are up to date.
