Croquet is an inexpensive year-round game, played by all ages, providing light healthy exercise, demanding skill and tactics rather than strength and stamina.
We play two forms of croquet - both are very competitive and good for the body and brain !
Golf Croquet (GC) This game is easy to pick up but endlessly challenging. In simple terms the objective of the game of Golf Croquet is to get your ball through the hoops before your opponent does. Played on a lawn with 6 hoops and 4 balls, players hit the balls on a set route in the attempt to be the first side to get their ball through 7 hoops. Much careful aiming, devious blocking, strategic placement and smacking away of opponent’s balls is involved in the quest to win. Most Golf Croquet games take less than an hour to complete,
Association Croquet. (AC) is the traditional form of the game. This is a challenging game requiring tactical ability, judgment and skill rather than strength and fast reflexes. The object of the game is to make both balls of your side pass through all the hoops in order and then hit the peg before your opponent. Various stroke techniques are employed to control both balls. By varying the angle at which you strike and the degree of force and the follow-through applied a skilful player can send both balls to very accurate destinations. A game can last over three hours.
In both games novice and expert players compete together supported by a practical handicapping system and at our club more experienced members help with teaching the basic skills needed in a friendly and relaxed manner.
