Pukekohe Amateur Athletic & Harrier Club

JUNIOR ATHLETICS SUMMER SEASON – GIRLS & BOYS 7 TO 14 YEARS OLD

WHEN: Tuesdays – 6pm to 7.30pm (October 2023 to March 2024)

WHERE: Navigation Homes Stadium, Pukekohe

ATHLETE PARTICIPATION

If your child is new to athletics, we run two weeks of ‘have a go’ nights. This gives them the opportunity to come down and try each of the events to see if they are keen to commit for the season.

We encourage children to participate in all events on a club night which helps to develop a broad athletic skill. Our club night programme and points system are set up to ensure athletes participate in all events.

On club nights, the athletes are split into groups by age and gender. They usually participate in 4 events, 2 field and 2 track. Athletes gather up on the grass bank to the right of the entrance gate and the night starts promptly at 6pm. The programme usually finishes between 7.30 and 8pm depending on athlete numbers and the amount of parent support.

PARENT PARTICIPATION

Everyone involved at the club is a volunteer. Our committee plan the weekly programmes, however each club night we need help with setting up and packing up the equipment, measuring the field events and time-keeping the track events. Parents are required to help with these tasks. If you are asked to help, please do so. At club nights, a parent or caregiver must attend and is responsible for the behaviour of their child/children. Children may become injured or ill. Meetings may also finish early due to the weather or smaller than usual numbers attending. If you can't be there, please make specific arrangements for another parent to be responsible for your child/children.

UNIFORM

The junior uniform is:

  1. The club singlet. This costs $35 (cash Only)and is available on club nights from the committee desk at the entrance to the ground.
  2. Plain black shorts.
  3. 2022/2023 Colgate age patch. This can be collected from the committee desk on club nights once you have registered. If you are new to the club, we must sight either your child’s birth certificate or passport. These can also be emailed to Kirsten Marx, club secretary at [email protected]

Spikes (screw-in metal spikes of 6mm length) are recommended for athletes aged 10 years and up, and may only be worn in track & field competitions by athletes 10yrs and over.

NOTE:  Athletes grade 10 and older - If you are wearing metal spikes in sprint events, you will be required to use blocks to start.  All athletes aged 12yrs and above regardless of footwear are required to start sprints (events up to 400m) in blocks.

FEES

Junior registration fees are $85. This is for the whole season which finishes at the end of March 2024. The fee is made up of Athletics Auckland and Athletics New Zealand registration fees and the remaining amount contributes to the club. This covers equipment and club night expenses.
