REVELATION GIRLS RUGBY 7's!!
PHASE 1:
Revelation first initiated a Rugby 7s program in 2014 with our club's inaugural Womens' 7s team. It was our first ever venture into 7s. Our girls were all new to 7s and we had difficulty trying to organise practises as most girls were committed to netball, touch rugby and tag during that October period.
We were blessed to have had assistance through a coaching session from Pete Walters who coached the Auckland Provincial Womens' 7s team to a national championship; we also had Linda Itunu, a previous New Zealand Women's 7s representative come and assist the girls too.
We only got to enter one tournament which was organised through the Northland Rugby Union. Our girls were lost on the field however their natural sporting ability and competitive spirit enabled them to do very well. They made the championship final and ended up losing to a Northland Women's representative team. So Runners-up in our very first competition - Great effort girls!
PHASE 2:
After a few years of planning, Revelation re-commenced its 7s program in October 2018 with an under 13 girls team. Once again the team was dominated with girls who were new to 7s and had crossed over from either rugby league or netball.
Our team entered one tournament which was the Aotearoa Women's 7s Tournament held in Karaka. After going undefeated through the round-robin games, the girls managed to win their semi-final and then went on to win the Under 13 Girls Championship Final!
A year later we built on our success by entering the 2019 Pasifica Women's Festival held in Papakura. We were able to retain some girls from the previous year in addition to acquiring new players. Our team had to play up a year in the Under 15 girls grade so it was certainly a challenge. The girls had some good wins to top their section after round-robin; they then had a very difficult semi-final versus Howick College which we won. The Revs team then played Hamilton Girls High School in the Championship Final which Revelation won! so another strong year for the Revelation Girls 7s program.
PHASE 3:
The intention, GOD willing, is to build a strong group of girls to represent Revelation in Rugby 7s around the world over the next few years. We will be taking registrations for our girls 7s team from 1st September 2021 and will be looking at possibly other age groups. New players are welcome if any girls feel that they can contribute to our vision and be aligned with Revelation's culture.
We are also looking for potential sponsors who would like to partner with our Revelation Girls 7s program. Any organisations who can assist with airfares, ground package costs or uniform expenditure will in return have their brand advertised on our team's playing uniforms and travelling apparel.
