Our Club

The Saracens RFC was formed in 2006 after the amalgamation of Rangiora RFC and Southbrook RFC, as a result the Saracens are now the only rugby club in Rangiora.

Since 2007, the inaugural season when 21 teams represented the Club in almost every grade and division of the North Canterbury Rugby competitions the Club has grown to 25 teams in the 2017 season and is the largest Club in North Canterbury.  This is providing continuity through the grades for players with everyone being able to play in their own age group, which is an essential ingredient to successful teenage and age grade rugby.

By having a large number of age group players feeding through the grades it is expected that this will allow for enhanced performance from the premier sides in the club, and greatly assist in the retention of the more talented players within the club. The Clubs first noteable success for our Division 1 side was the winning of the 2015 NCRSU Grand Final and then in 2017 both our Division 1 & 2 sides won their respective Grand Finals, our combined Ashley/Saracens U16 were also Grand Final winners and our combined Oxford/Saracens U14.5 lost by 2 points in a match regarded by many as one of the best of the day.

The Club Executive are committed to the vision that Saracens RFC will become one of the most successful clubs in Canterbury and has formulated an exciting and visionary strategic plan for the immediate years ahead.

Administration

The Saracens RFC is going through quite a major restructuring following the 2017 AGM and is now administered by a committee of seven and with our three club captains and NCRSU delegates coopted onto the committee. All of these volunteers generously give up their time and energy in order to ensure the smooth running of the club.

The major change is that the whole club is now run by the one committee and there being no separate JAB committee. Many members of the 2016 committees are still involved in voluntery roles but with lesser work loads under this new structure.

Community

Saracens RFC provides the rugby code with a strong, well resourced organisation best positioned to capture the exciting future opportunities that will arise within the Waimakariri community. The Club is determined and committed to make a significant contribution to rugby and to the overall sporting community of Rangiora . In addition to rugby, the  club will continue to build upon the relationships and services provided to many other community groups, particularly sporting, education and service organisations.

These relationships currently include Rangiora High School, Ashgrove, Rangiora Borough, Rangiora New Life, St Josephs and Tuahiwi Primary Schools, Cricket, Touch and Netball.

The Saracens RFC is strategically planning to establish many more mutually rewarding strategic partnerships with community organisations, business houses, sponsors and funding agencies
