Become a Homestay Host

Share the beauty of New Zealand culture while also learning about your student's home country and culture

Apply to be a Homestay Host for International Students

Hosting an International Student is a wonderful opportunity for you and your family to learn about a new culture while sharing your own.   Hosts provide a caring, encouraging and stimulating environment.  It is an opportunity for Hosts to:

  • Welcome students as part of their new community
  • Learn phrases in your student’s native language
  • Discover more about another country, customs and traditions, differences and similarities
  • Develop long friendships that can last a lifetime
  • Share the beauty of New Zealand culture, customs, events and traditions

We have both short-term and long-term hosting options.

Short-term placements are an excellent way to experience being a Homestay Host.  These placements generally occur during school holidays and are for our International Students who board at our College Hostel.  A Host Family needs to be able to provide:

  • A warm, light bedroom with a study desk, reading lamp, desk chair, mirror, heating, chest of drawers and or wardrobe.
  • Wi-Fi Internet
  • 3 meals a day and snacks, including school lunches
  • Laundry – washing and ironing facilities
  • Close proximity to our College, or College bus routes, or public transport

It is mandatory in New Zealand for all hosts, including any adults aged 18 or over in the household to complete a Police Vetting Form as part of their application.

Homestay families are currently paid $385 a week.
