Central Hawkes Bay Additional Laws:

Under 6 and 7

 Ball Size 2 and ½     Approx 7 players.

Standard Ripper Rugby rules apply plus these additional ones.

-Teams are to play as even sides, either loan players or agree to play as is with subs via the larger side.

-One coach from each side on the field, with one taking responsibility for refereeing. --Change over at half time.

 -Six rips and then hand over to opposition, with referee calling each rip. E.g.: rip 1,      rip 2 etc.

-Kick offs are kicked by the try scoring team. If the ball goes over the try-line or over the sideline it is a tap and pass from halfway for the receiving team.

-No sprigs, cleats or blade boots. Sneakers or bare feet are fine.

-All players are to play at least half a game, and subs preferably done at half time.

No fending! Or Scragging!

Please let the children play Rugby!

  Barefoot Under 8

 Ball Size 3 

 Approx 7 players

-Tackles must be below the shoulders and no collar pulling allowed (scragging).

-Kick offs are kicked by the try scoring team. If the ball goes over the try-line or over the sideline it is a tap and pass from halfway for the receiving team.

-Line outs and scrums are uncontested.

No sprigs, cleats or blade boots. Sneakers or bare feet are fine.

All players are to play at least half a game, and subs preferably done at half time.

No fending!  Please let the children play Rugby!

Under 9 

 Ball Size 3  

Approx 10 players

Standard Rugby rules apply plus these additional ones:

-Teams are to play as even sides, either loan players or agree to play as is with subs via the larger side.

-No coaches on the field.

-Games to be refereed by anyone from either side, but please avoid coaching your side while refereeing. Change over at half time or a referee may be available at times.

-Games are two 20 minute halves

-Kick offs are kicked by the try scoring team. If the ball goes over the try-line or over the sideline it is a tap and pass from halfway for the receiving team.

-Tackles must be below the shoulders and no collar pulling allowed. (scragging)

Under 11 and Under 13         

 Ball Size 4                  

 15 aside

Standard Rugby rules apply plus these additional ones:

-Teams are to play as even sides, either loan players or agree to play as is with subs via the larger side. If a side does not have 15 players, the game is played and points awarded to the winning team.

-Loan players from other squads are allowed but please play your own players first and manage so they are not the same children every week.

-All players are to play at least half a game, and subs preferably done at half time.

-Tackles must be below the shoulders and no collar pulling allowed (scragging).

-Referees will be provided, if there is no referee please ensure that the game is refereed by a parent or a coach, fairly.

Under 11 game time is 25 minute halves.

Under 13 game time is 30 minute halves.
