Please do not use the staff car park area as a drop off or pick up zone. The car park can be a busy place, especially before and after school.

There is an OSCAR After School Programme at our school. It also offers a terrific action packed Holiday Programme! Check out their page on our Website or their Facebook page. For more details phone the AFCARE on 027 358 0848.

Lost property is kept on the blue trolley under the Learning Centre shelter. This may be checked by parents during school hours. We ask that parents name their child's clothing.

Hero app

We use Hero for school comunication, sharing of photos, work and absences. Please make sure you are signed up to the free app so you can stay up to date with what is going on at school.

Kapa Haka

Kapa Haka at Tamatea Primary gives our tamariki the opportunity to develop and demonstrate our mana values as they learn and perform a variety of waiata and haka. Many of these are from Kahungunu and some have been specifically written for us. We believe it is important that our tamariki also learn about the whakamārama (meaning) and tito (composers) behind the waiata and haka we teach alongside the protocols of pōhiri and performing.

For many years we have been involved in the Tamatea Schools festival which is held each year and includes the seven schools in our Kāhui Ako. Recently we started a Senior Roopū for our Year 5 and 6 tamariki, we meet weekly and focus on building confidence and leadership through Kapa Haka.

Taekwon-Do

We are extremely lucky to have Ben Evans, who is a qualified Taekwon-Do instructor, working in our school. All classes receive a weekly lesson from Ben during school hours. Children also have the opportunity to participate in grading and qualify for the various coloured belts.

Swimming

All children participate in a swimming programme focusing on Water Safety and Water Skills for Life. We are lucky enough to be instructed by the Dolphin Academy Swim Instructors at the Green Family Pool in Taradale. All children are expected to take part unless there is a medical reason.
