Hi everyone

Lynette and I have been reviewing some photos we took in Christchurch and while all may not be flattering they reflect a great trip with a great bunch of people and the mix of people, personalities and backgrounds always amazes me so thank you all for your participation regardless of whether you have been a member of our association for 5 minutes or 5 decades it is great to have you all on board. This of course includes those that did not qualify for the nationals this year but have supported us regardless and those that have supported us over many years and are realistically reaching the end of their golfing career. We have had a fantastic year particularly considering the Covid stuff and we appreciate your support. A special mention to Keith Penny who has for many years supported the golf section through TLC insurance  and while this support may not continue with the evolving ownership of Keith’s business we acknowledge his generous support and hope to see you playing a few more games in 2022 KP and being part of the team representing us in Rotorua in November next year.

So now it comes to a review of our Christchurch Trip. Short it may not be!

4 very competitive teams travelled and we were met by a welcoming team from Canterbury with representation from Rotorua, New Plymouth, Southland Canterbury and ourselves. We look forward to welcoming Auckland, Wanganui and Hamilton back next year.

With the reduced number of teams the competition should have been pretty straight forward to deal with! The reality is often different to the theory and this proved to be the case again this year with one of the local Canterbury teams taking the Eisenhower trophy from us. Tauranga 2 were placed 3rd of the 16 teams (Andrew. Leighton, Paul and Craig) with our next best effort being Tauranga 3 (Bill, Anne, Lynette and Murray) placing 9th.

I have not received the official results and scores as yet however I have attached the scoring records I kept for those who are interested.

We did manage to buy a few horses in the Calcutta and were lucky (or skilled) enough to own the 1st and 3rd horses so everyone got a bit of a payout and we have $420 to put back into the kitty for next year which is a great start for the pool for Rotorua next year where we hope to be able to field 5 teams if the support continues as it is a relatively cheap trip. The dates next year are Thursday 24th, Friday 25th and Saturday 26th November at Lakeview Golf club Rotorua. In case you need to start working on your leave pass or brownie points. We will play another round on the Sunday somewhere for those interested but plenty of time to sort that.

Based on this Andrew Paterson has won the St Clair Trophy for the best nett score over the two tournament rounds (146) pipping Leighton Watene by a shot.

The Greg Cambie Trophy for the overall golfer of the year ended up going to Mikaere Smith whose consistency throughout the year has paid dividends and staying away from Spur Winged Plovers has improved his scoring and most likely his mental state.

Doris Basher had already won the Russel Paterson Cup for the top qualifier for the Nationals. Lynette Wilson won the Calypso Cup matchplay trophy, Dave Breckon the Coruba Cup and Mike Hewitt the Pinto cup.

Well done to all the winners and now the planning for next years schedule begins. The Coruba cup will be either Sunday 13th or 20th February but will await confirmation from Omanu once they have finalised their schedule.

All the trophies are being engraved so we hope to be able to present them at the PV rewards day if you can make it.

Thanks again for your support and look forward to another great year with less disruptions and uncertainty than the last couple.

A couple of photos attached. Apologies team 1 but I don’t have one of you guys for whatever reason.

See you Thursday night.

Cheers

Craig Wilson
