It carries fines and demerit points eg slow driving, tail-gating, fail to comply with school patrol sign, using mobile phone while driving a vehicle $150 fine plus 20 demerit points, Unsafe passing, Fail to give way at pedestrian crossing, Failure to remain stopped for an enforcement officer 35 demerit points, Exceeding the speed limit by more than 35km/h carries 50 demerit points and fine of $400 upwards. More than 40km/h you get a 28 days licence suspension. At more than 50km/h you be charged with careless driving.If you dispute your infringement notice, you MUST write to the Police Infringement Bureau, PO Box 9147, Wellington 6141 or email the Police Infringement Bureau before the due date. If you want to start court proceedings, it will be transferred to the Ministry of Justice. They will contact you. Court cost could be added to your penalty.
