The club was founded in August 1960 by four foundation members.  They were: the late Les Bouzaid, the late Charlie Thomas, the late Amy Calvert and her son Graham.

In the old days the club was a hive of activity with social, interclub, representative matches, and even an International being staged in the old War Memorial Hall. Scaffolding was put up for spectators and a good crowd turned up.

Unfortunately, at the end of 1976 the club reluctantly went into recess.  In 1980 interest was renewed with the help of the Waikanae Lions Club.  This club lasted only one year but a new club under the name of Waikane Central was soon formed.

In 1982 The Waikanae Table Tennis Club came back into being and local interclub fixtures and social fixtures took place.

These days, competition matches are played against Levin, Kapiti and Tawa clubs and with three club days per week players of all standards are catered for.
