Counties Manukau Touch Framework for Tamariki 2024/2025
As a province we have a proud history of strong touch programmes for our Tamariki and Rangatahi that has led to regular success for our province.
Over the last several years participation in touch at all levels has declined and we are determined as a province to grow our numbers through alignment with our Values:
We are also committed to embracing the Touch New Zealand Junior Touch Policy.
"The philosophy underpinning Junior Touch is aimed at ensuring young participants have fun, enjoy playing with their mates, have equal opportunities, and can learn skills in an appropriate ages and stages environment to encourage active lifestyles and a lifelong engagement with Touch."
The sporting welfare and development of our children has never been more important given the increasing demands on our young people today. With numerous amounts of research completed in understanding the best ways of providing sport and activity to our Tamariki age groups, Sport NZ has outlined a strategy called “Balance is Better” to enhance the long term mental and physical health and wellbeing of children.
The focus for our Tamariki is participation, enjoyment, and skill development and we believe this encompassing approach will see more children participating in Touch across Counties Manukau.
As a Board, we have listened to your voice and have implemented the following:
This season we are continuing with enabling Counties Manukau representative teams to be formed at each module. This will be dependent on coach and manager availability, as well as the number of players.
Each module can have a representative team/s in the following grades - Under 10s, Under 12s, and Under 14s for both girls and boys. If a module does not have enough Tamariki to form a team, we will look to connect the willing participants to a module nearby that may have space to accommodate.
We are not limiting the number of teams this season, as we want to give as many Tamariki as possible the opportunity to participate and be part of the Counties Manukau whanau.
Teams will be confirmed, coaches and managers will then organise trainings at or near the module grounds.
All costs and tournament dates are provided in the registration form which can be found below
