Have your say : Proposed NSL
Softball New Zealand is inviting feedback on a discussion document outlining a proposed National Softball League for men and women, provisionally starting in the 2027/28 season.
The proposal explores replacing the current four-day National Fastpitch Championship (NFC) with a competition played across three weekends. The aim is to provide quality domestic competition that helps prepare players for the Black Sox and White Sox, while creating more opportunities to showcase softball and attract broadcast and commercial support.
This is a discussion document. We want the softball community’s input before making decisions about the league’s final structure and whether it proceeds.
We encourage associations, clubs, players, coaches, officials and supporters to read the document and share their views. We are particularly interested in feedback on:
The proposed competition format and finals options.
Travel costs and the practical demands on teams and associations.
Player access, including the proposed draft and pitcher rules.
The relationship with the Heartland Championships.
How local club softball can continue during the league window.
Please send your feedback, questions or alternative suggestions to CEO@softball.org.nz. When providing feedback, please include your name and, where relevant, your club or association.
Ngā mihi nui. Your input will help shape a competition that works for our athletes and the wider softball community.
