SENZ Radio Interviews

SENZ sport radio talkback is the home of sport across New Zealand. We have been fortunate to have softball highlighted in two broadcasts, featuring our High Performance Manager (Bevan Matene) and Junior White Sox Head Coach (Kiri Shaw).

Bevan Matene spoke with Mark Watson on the ‘Sunday Afternoons’ segment, about the state of Softball in New Zealand, the appointment of Softball NZ's new CEO (Jason Merrett) and the upcoming tours and tournaments for the Black Sox, White Sox and Junior White Sox in July. Bevan mentions a focus on bringing back energy and excitement for the younger generation, with in depth discussion around reestablishing the women's program of Softball within New Zealand. You can listen to the segment from 4th June  HERE.

Current JWSX coach and former Olympian - Kiri Shaw - had an in-depth discussion with Kimberlee Downs around the Junior White Sox and their upcoming Under 18 World Cup qualifiers in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The Juniot White Sox team are travelling to Texas, via Sydney, where they intend to play in some local tournaments, as well as having game time against American travel-ball teams. While the makeup of the squad includes players Manawatu, Whanganui and Queensland, the majority fall in the main centres of Auckland, Wellington/Hutt Valley and Canterbury. They have utilised social media and technology to run cohesive trainings and build team relationships prior to their departure, with the athletes motivating and supporting each other alongside their regional trainings. New Zealand and Chinese Taipei will open the WBSC Under 18 Qualifier competition on Tuesday 23 July at noon (local time) in Sao Paulo, Brazil. You can listen to the segment July 7th HERE.
