US College Softball
The US college system represents an outstanding opportunity for New Zealand female softballers.
For the right athlete, it can combine high-level softball, quality coaching, education and an incredible life experience, while also contributing to their development towards elite international softball.
A number of New Zealand athletes are already taking this pathway, and we believe it is important that Softball New Zealand better understands and connects with the college system.
At present, the experience can vary considerably from athlete to athlete. Some players and families have strong networks and support around them, while others largely navigate the process themselves.
Softball New Zealand is undertaking a review of the women's US college pathway to better understand how we can support future athletes and their whānau.
This work will include learning from players who have already experienced the college system, understanding the current recruitment landscape, strengthening relationships within the United States and considering how college softball can connect more effectively with our national pathway. Those are specifically the areas the draft project proposes investigating.
We also want to better understand what role Softball New Zealand should play - whether that is primarily through education and information, stronger connections, athlete support, or partnerships with organisations already working in this space.
You don't need to wait until this work is completed to talk to us. We want to help!
If you are a player or whānau considering the US college pathway, are already speaking with colleges or recruiters, or are currently playing college softball overseas, we'd love to hear from you.

Likewise, if you have experience within the college system and can help us build a stronger pathway for the next generation of New Zealand athletes, please get in touch.
