MORE INFORMATION COMING

This Toolbox has been created to support our Associations and Clubs by providing practical resources, templates, training, policies, procedures and best-practice guidance, all in one place. Whether you're a volunteer, committee member, administrator, coach or club leader, this Information Hub is designed to make your role easier and help build stronger, safer and more sustainable softball communities.

Our initial focus is on Safe Sport, Governance and Volunteers, providing tools that support good decision-making, create positive environments and strengthen the capability of those who give so much to our game. This is a living resource that will continue to grow over time, with new content, guides and resources regularly added to support every aspect of delivering great softball experiences.

Together, we're building stronger clubs, stronger associations and a stronger future for softball across Aotearoa.

SAFE SPORT

Safe Sport refers to creating a sporting environment where all participants, including athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, and spectators can engage in sport without fear of abuse, harassment, or violence. According to the International Olympic Council, it is defined as an environment that is respectful, equitable, and free from all forms of harassment and abuse, whether in person or online, and regardless of race, religion, gender, age, disability, or athletic ability.  Here are some policy templates to support Safe Sport in your region:

GOVERNANCE

Good governance in sports refers to the practices, structures, and processes that guide sports organizations to achieve their objectives while maintaining integrity and public trust. It involves steering collective actions toward achieving results, ensuring that decisions are made responsibly, and that the organization fulfills its mission and purpose. Sports governance is distinct from other sectors due to the principle of sports autonomy, which allows organizations to establish rules, manage elections, and govern themselves free from external interference.  Please find attached some policy templates that support your Governance Journey:

VOLUNTEERS

Retaining volunteers in softball is essential because volunteers are the backbone of the sport’s operations, community engagement, and long-term sustainability:

1. Ensures Operational Stability  Softball clubs and teams rely heavily on volunteers for event management, scheduling, coaching support, marketing, and fan engagement

2. Builds Community and Team Spirit Volunteers help create a strong club culture, foster connections & presence in the community

3. Reduces Costs and Increases Efficiency Retaining experienced volunteers saves time, reduces training costs, and improves operational efficiency

4. Enhances Volunteer Satisfaction and Impact When volunteers feel valued, see their contributions make a difference, and have clear, meaningful roles, they are more likely to stay

5. Supports Growth and Expansion A stable volunteer base allows clubs to take on more events, expand programs, and reach new audiences
