Prominent Coaches with Addington Links

From our earliest days, Addington RLFC – Manatōpū has proudly contributed to the representative rugby league landscape in Aotearoa. Our club has nurtured, developed, and celebrated exceptional players who have gone on to wear the colours of Canterbury and the New Zealand Kiwis with pride.

This legacy began in the very foundation of our club, with pioneers like Jim Sanders, Jim Amos, and Charlie Pearce. Men who not only led on the field but helped shape the game off it. Their influence extended beyond Addington, reaching provincial, national, and even international levels.

Over the decades, more of our players have stepped into the representative arena, continuing this proud tradition. From Bill Guiney’s Test debut in 1920, to Mike Dorreen’s explosive presence in the late 1980s and early 1990s, each has carried our colours into the next chapter of rugby league history.

Players and coaches achievements remind us of what’s possible when community, opportunity, and talent come together. These players and coaches are not only part of Addington’s story, they are woven into the story of the game itself.

As we look ahead, we remain committed to creating more of these pathways. Supporting our tamariki, rangatahi and senior players to reach their full potential, just like those who came before them.
