MULTISPORT

Introduction

Triathlon has a great history at Grammar. Olympic Champion Hamish Carter is an Old Boy. More recently, Old Boys Jack Moody and Ben Hamilton have experienced success in the 70.3 Half Ironman. 2025 Captain of Multisport Caleb Wagener is the current World Junior Duathlon Champion and NZ Triathlon runner-up.

We compete in the Auckland Schools’ Aquathon, Duathlon and Triathlon, along with the New Zealand Schools’ events in the same disciplines. There is also the opportunity to compete in a range of club events. Training is generally alongside the school’s run, bike and swim squads, but we are also fortunate to have Old Boy Ben Hamilton leading triathlon-specific sessions, especially before major events.

All students are welcome to take part, regardless of age or experience. To start, you only need some togs, an old bike and some running shoes. We will lend you a Grammar tri-suit. There are options to compete as an individual in all the disciplines, or to complete one (or two) legs of a race as part of a team. Therefore, we can involve our top swimmers, cyclists and runners in highly competitive teams. It is hoped that this may lead to more athletes graduating to competing as individuals in the future.
