Where can we go for group cycle rides?
Can I join a regular ride?
Is there a ride I can join with other women?
When can you teach us everything about bikes? Can you teach us how to ride in a bunch?
Can you teach me how to fix a puncture?
Can we go training for events together?
All the above questions were asked by women wanting to get involved!
So we did something about it! - Vicki Butterworth (Cycling New Zealand) and Kirsty McCallum (EIT Student) sat down together and decided they needed to find answers to these questions and it came in the form of building a 'womens club'. Kirsty was passionate and keen to apply learnings, Vicki is always passionate and we were full steam ahead!!
The club/group is aiming to cater for all women, whether they are racers who want training buddies, to the first timer wanting to get started on the pathways! We have a policy that when we ride, we ride together. We dont leave people behind, and coffee is compulsory!
Vicki, Kirsty and Kathie Bamber are previous organisors and now Mary-ann Johnson organises the regular weekend pathway rides.
We are looking foward to meeting all you fantastic women out there, follow us on Facebook and join one of our group rides.
