Burnside High School works alongside the North West Youth Cricket Club to provide cricketing opportunities for our students.
Our cricketers play their Saturday cricket with the club and are entered into Secondary Schools competitions as appropriate.
Each year the school will enter teams into the Gillette 1st XI Cup (mid February) and the Year 9 NZCT Cup (late October/early November). Where necessary trials will be held in consultation with the North West Youth Club coaches.
The school will issue a uniform for these competitions and there will be a small cost (approx $20) associated with the purchase of new balls and administration costs.

Term 1 XC Competition
Wednesday 3.30 - 5.30pm; approx $30 entry fee
This is an interschool XC MTB race series that is held at the Halswell tracks over five consecutive Wednesdays starting in late February/early March. The Canterbury School champs are held on the final week of racing. The Canterbury Singletracks Club run this event on behalf of School Sport Canterbury.
You will need to have your own bike and helmet for this competition. You must also be able to get yourself and your bike to and from the Quarry each week.

The number of rugby players here at Burnside High School can fluctuate from year to year so we work closely with the Burnside Rugby Club (BRFC) to make sure that all our players get on the field each year. In the last few years, all the teenage teams at the club have been called Tī Kōuka to recognise the importance of the cabbage tree to both the club and the school.

The girls play in a combined team with Rangi Ruru, Marian College and St Margaret's.
Trainings take place at the Rangi Ruru school grounds on a Monday after school and all games are played at Burnside Park at 3.15pm on Wednesday afternoons.
There are no cost associated with girls rugby but you must be able to transport yourself to Rangi Ruru and Burnside Park for practices and games.

2024 Term 1 Junior Trials
If you are keen to play Volleyball in Term 1, we have Junior Trials (for Y9 and Y10 Boys and Girls) on Monday 05 February.
These take place at the following times:
Girls - Y9 and Y10 - 3.30-5.30pm
Boys - Y9 and Y10 - 5.30-7.30pm
in the CROSS GYM.
Please also make sure you bring suitable clothing to play in, to get changed into after school. You do not have to trial in your PE uniform.
