Canoe Slalom New Zealand's national competition programme provides opportunities for paddlers of different ages and stages to race, develop their skills and be part of the canoe slalom community.
Competitions are held at venues around Aotearoa New Zealand and include both canoe slalom and kayak cross, giving athletes the opportunity to experience different courses, racing environments and levels of competition.
Our national competitions are an important part of the athlete pathway – from paddlers experiencing their first races through to Junior, U23, Senior and Masters athletes, and those preparing to represent New Zealand internationally.
Throughout the season, CSNZ and our affiliated clubs deliver a range of competitions, including:
National and regional ranking competitions
New Zealand National Championships
New Zealand Secondary Schools Championships
Canoe slalom and kayak cross events
Club-hosted competitions
International-level events hosted in New Zealand
Each competition provides an opportunity for athletes to test their skills under race conditions, gain experience on different courses and continue their development.
Our competition programme caters for a wide range of paddlers, from developing athletes through to experienced international competitors.
Entry requirements can vary between events, so athletes and families should check the information published for each competition, including membership requirements, age categories, classes, entry deadlines and any qualification or eligibility requirements.

You don't need to be an international-level paddler to experience racing.
Club and national competitions provide an opportunity for developing paddlers to learn how events work, gain race experience and meet paddlers from across New Zealand.
If you're new to canoe slalom or aren't sure which competition is right for you, your local club is a great place to start.

Kayak cross is an exciting head-to-head racing discipline and is an important part of both our national competition programme and the international performance pathway.
Kayak cross opportunities are included within selected CSNZ events throughout the season.

National competitions rely on more than just the athletes on the water.
Coaches, officials, volunteers, clubs, parents and supporters all contribute to delivering great racing environments and a strong canoe slalom community.
Whether you want to race, coach, officiate, volunteer or simply come along and support our paddlers, we'd love to have you involved.
