Carmel College Sport

Athletics 

Athletics commences with the School Athletics day where all students can participate in a combination of competitive athletic events and fun inter-house activities. To compete at the zone days and championships students must qualify at the school athletics.

Carmel School Athletics Day:  Tuesday, 10 March 2026 at Onewa Domain

Uniform: House mufti

Cost: $20 will be added to students’ account for the school athletics day and swimming sports combined.

Y9-13 Auckland Championships: 17 and 19 March 2026


Badminton 

Social Competition at Carmel College: 

Term 2&3 Tuesdays for Years 8-13 

Teams are to consist of 4 players; they will need to create their own team uniform and name. 

The cost for the social Badminton season is $10 per player to cover equipment upkeep and replacement. 

Rackets and Shuttlecocks will be provided.


Basketball

The season runs Term 2 and 3.

Premier: Friday 6pm or 7.30pm home and away games over Auckland.

U17: Friday 4pm onwards AUT Gymnasium or North Shore Events Centre.

Y9/10: Wednesday or Thursday 4pm onwards AUT Gymnasium or North Shore Events Centre.

Uniform: Carmel College basketball Home and Away strip will be loaned for the season.

Other teams will be required to purchase a numbered singlet. Basketball shorts will be loaned for the season.

A deposit of $100 for all players must be paid through the school online shop prior to trials. The remaining amount is due once teams are named. 


Beach Volleyball 

The league runs in Term 4. This is a social sport; girls are required to create their own teams for this competition

Competition: Wednesday 4pm onwards at Mairangi Bay Beach Volleyball Centre

Uniform: Carmel PE Gear, numbered singlet or Carmel Crop Top

Cheerleading

All Year round for Year 7-13 Students

Trainings are Thursday nights 6pm – 7pm

Training to be held at All Stars Cheerleading, 62B Diana Drive, Glenfield. Additional training can be held at Carmel College leading up to competitions if required.

The cost is per term, payable to All Star Cheerleaders (plus reduced prices for current All Star members)

Uniform: White sneakers and socks, Carmel College Cheerleading uniform for purchase or hire.

Dragon Boating

Year 12&13 competitors and must be able to swim 50 metres.

Auckland competition: Sunday March, Lake Pupuke 2026

(Nationals will be an option if we have enough paddlers for a competitive boat)

Maximum of 22 needed; paddlers and one caller in the boat.

Training: 6 weeks on Monday and Wednesday starting February after school from 4.15-6.00pm on Lake Pupuke.

Cost: $100 for the training, event entry and singlet to keep (cost TBC).


Equestrian

Equestrian is run throughout the year and open only to students who have a horse and are already experienced riders. 

Competitions:

Peagus Cup

New Zealand Secondary Schools Horse Trials Teams

Uniform: Blue Carmel long sleeve Equestrian top. Competitors must wear hard hats at all times when mounted.

Cost: $70 per event (approx).


Football

The season runs Terms 2 – 3

Trials: Mid Term 1 

Competition: Starts Term 2, Wednesday 4pm at various North Harbour/Auckland venues

Winter Tournament: NZSS Championships in September

Uniform: Carmel College Football uniform on loan and blue Carmel football socks 


Gymnastics

Students can be entered into the following competitions:

An adult must be present at all times to supervise students

By being a competitive Gymnast for Carmel College, students must purchase the school leotard -https://www.ticktockdesigns.co.nz/product/sweetheart-leotard/. The custom colour combination is Aqua mesh with white mystique highlights, deep blue mystique body and scatter rhinestones (plain sleeves).


Hockey

Competition: Starts Term 2. 1st – 3rd Xl Thursday 4pm onwards, 4th Xl Friday 4pm onwards. Various venues around North Harbour.

Training: Mondays 6.45am - 8am for 1st/2nd Xl and Thursdays 7am - 8am for 3rd Xl at WGHS

Winter Tournament: New Zealand Secondary Schools Tournament in September for the 1st Xl team.

Uniform: Carmel College Hockey uniform is a numbered singlet, skort and blue school socks. A dress will be loaned to the 1st Xl team for the season.

Netball

Competition: 

Year 9 Teams: Monday nights from 4.50pm at NNH

Year 10-13 Teams: Saturday mornings 8am - 12.10pm

Senior 1, 2, 3 and Y9/1  – May NNH Secondary Schools Tournament

Senior 1, 10/1 and 9/1 – August Auckland Netball Combined Points Tournament

Winter Tournament: 

Senior 1 - Upper North Island Secondary Schools Tournament. End of August – 1st week of September, cost $600–$900

Uniform: Carmel College Netball Uniform plus white socks and netball shoes

Orienteering

Weekly competition on Thursdays in Term 1 around North Harbour, run by College Sport

Rowing

Carmel College Rowing is facilitated through the North Shore Rowing Club. Girls need to join the Rowing Club as members and row in all Club regattas. Following the Club season (Sept - Feb), there are School Rowing Regattas (Feb - March). Please get in touch with the teacher-in-charge if you are interested.

Uniform: North Shore Rowing Club row suit (purchased through the club), Carmel College Sport Singlet, and Black Rowing Shorts (singlet can be loaned)

Costs: North Shore Rowing Club - subscription fees plus expenses related to separate regattas.

School – Regatta entry fees, transport, accommodation and food costs

The North Shore Rowing Club welcomes Year 11 Carmel girls, who are keen to row, in March each year. They join the club ‘Learn to Row’ programme, which consists of 8 two-hour lessons at Lake Pupuke. Cost $80.00 (TBC)

Those who wish to continue and show promise move into the club’s Development Squad, where they will train in preparation to become a Novice for the racing season, Oct - Feb. Training is both at Lake Pupuke and Greenhithe. Cost: $300.00 (TBC)

Full Club Membership: Club rowers compete in both the North Island Club Championships (Karapiro) and the NZ Club Rowing Champs (Twizel or Karapiro). Cost: $1,100.00 (TBC). additional costs for separate regattas and rowing camps. ​​​​​​​

Note: The Nationals is a joint decision between the school, coaches and parents. It requires parents to be in charge of the trip and for girls to be making A Finals throughout the season.

Sailing 

Students are entered into the College Sport Fleet Racing Regatta – March Term 1 2026

Wakatere Boating Club, Narrowneck Beach, Devonport

An adult must be present at all times to supervise students


Snow Sports

The school enters teams/individuals into the North Island Secondary Schools Ski Championships held at Turoa and Y7/8 students to the North Island Intermediate Championships in September

Trials: Students will have to attend two trainings and trials at Snowplanet early Term 2. These two dates are compulsory for any girl wanting to compete. 

Auckland Competition: Early June at Snowplanet, $75 for the day 

North Island Competition: Late September three day event at Turoa, $200-400 

Uniform: The girls are to supply their own gear

Tennis

Year 9-13

Competition: Term 1 Saturday mornings or Monday 4pm onwards, Home and away venues.

Note: Games will be scheduled to start at 4pm, please try to be there by 3.45 pm to allow warm up

Your daughter must already be currently playing Tennis and have a ranking to be entered 

Uniform: Carmel tennis shirt and own black or white shorts/skirt to match

Cost: $35 for the season 

The teams of 4-6 girls will be based on their current club rankings


Year 7-10 

Term 4 Junior Tennis Season 

Monday North Harbour Competition at Various Venues

Uniform: Black Shorts/Skirt and Carmel Singlet 

Cost: $35 for the season

Minimum of four and maximum of six players needed for a team to be created 

Teams will be created based on rankings 


Touch

The season runs Term 1 for Seniors in the Auckland Premier Competition and Term 4 for Juniors for 5-8 weeks

Senior Competition: Tuesday 4pm onwards at Becroft Park,  Term 1 2026

Junior Competition: Tuesday 4pm onwards at Becroft Park, Term 4 2026

Uniform: Carmel College numbered singlet and PE shorts


Swimming 

Swimming at Carmel commences with the School Swimming day where all students can participate in a combination of competitive swimming events and fun Inter-House activities. To compete at the Zones and Championships students must qualify at the school swimming day.

North Islands Tournament: 5 day competition Term 1, Palmerston North


Year 9/10

Competition: Junior Premier – Wednesdays 4pm onwards, AUT Gymnasium and Fridays at Various Auckland School Home and Away Venues

Junior Social – Thursdays 4pm onwards, Netball North Harbour Stadium

Auckland Tournament: 3 day competition early Term 4, Trust Stadium

North Islands Tournament: 5 day competition late Term 4, Auckland

Waterpolo 

Y9-13 Seniors 

Term 4 Training Sessions for all players Thursday mornings 5.30am - 6.45am at AUT Millennium. These training sessions are seen as the trials for the Senior 2026 team/s

Training will commence on Monday 9th October and will run through to Sunday 10th December 

The Senior B team will only be formed if the majority of players are in Y11 - Y13

The Senior season in Term 1 consists of Two trainings a week Senior A and one training a week for Senior B in Term 1 of 2026, plus two games a week for each team in Term 1

The Senior A team competes in North Islands and Nationals
