Central Football Confirms Women’s Federation League for 2026

Central Football is pleased to announce the re-establishment of the Women’s Federation League for the 2026 season, marking a significant step forward for the women’s game within the Federation. This follows a consultation process that began in early September 2025, when all clubs were invited to submit expressions of interest and provide feedback on the proposed competition structure.

Clubs were given until 22 September to signal their interest. During October the following actions took place with the interested clubs:

  • Circulation of the intended league structure

  • An online hui with interested clubs

  • Distribution of the final proposed structure and a request for confirmation of participation

In early November, Central Football received final confirmation of entries, enabling the organisation to reinstate the competition for 2026.

Central Football can now confirm that a six-team Women’s Federation League will return next season. The league will once again serve as the qualifying competition for any Central League play-off, reinstating a clear, aspirational pathway for clubs seeking progression to the next level.

The confirmed competing clubs for 2026 are:

  • Moturoa AFC

  • New Plymouth Rangers

  • Whanganui Athletic

  • Palmerston North Marist

  • Port Hill United FC

  • Napier City Rovers

Central Football acknowledges that some regions may have questions regarding the impact on local competition structures. Any necessary adjustments will be reviewed and managed by the competitions team during the 2026 entry process.

Congratulations to the six clubs preparing for the 2026 Women’s Federation League.
