Western Premiership

Football can be a cruel game, and Saturday's clash between Takaro AFC and FC Western Reserves delivered plenty of drama as the two sides shared the points in an incredible 4-4 draw.

FC Western struck first through Lewis Cumberledge, who scored twice in quick succession in the 25th and 27th minutes to give the visitors a commanding early advantage. Takaro responded well and pulled one back through Satore Chambers in the 32nd minute to trail 2-1 at the break.

The second half appeared to be slipping away from the home side as the game entered its closing stages, but Takaro refused to give in. AJ Toki levelled the scores in the 84th minute before Scott Burney completed the turnaround with a goal in the 89th minute to put Takaro 3-2 ahead.

Just when it looked like the hosts had done enough, the match exploded into life during stoppage time. Ollie Harris equalised for FC Western in the 90th minute before an own goal from Mark Manson four minutes into added time swung the advantage back to the visitors at 4-3.

However, there was still one final twist. Deep into stoppage time, FC Western's Babu Khan unfortunately turned the ball into his own net in the sixth minute of added time, ensuring Takaro salvaged a point from a remarkable contest.

The result leaves both teams wondering what might have been after a game that saw momentum swing wildly throughout the 90 minutes and beyond. For the neutral, it was an entertaining spectacle that showcased the unpredictability of football at its finest.

The home side looked the more dangerous team during the first half and were rewarded deep into stoppage time when Alex Gaskell broke the deadlock in the 45th+2 minute. The goal gave PN Marist a deserved advantage heading into the halftime break.

Gaskell continued his fine afternoon shortly after the restart, doubling both his tally and his side's lead in the 58th minute. At 2-0, the Dunshaegans appeared to be in complete control and on course for all three points.

However, the Wanderers had other ideas. Jason Mann sparked the comeback with a well-taken goal in the 75th minute, giving the visitors renewed belief heading into the final stages.
