When Hari Fovakis picked up the whistle midway through the 2024 season, he was looking for a way to stay involved in the game he loves. After injuries brought his playing days to an end, refereeing became the perfect opportunity to remain part of football—and it's safe to say the game is better for it.

Since joining Central Football's referee team, Hari has become a familiar face around the region. Whether he's in the middle controlling the match or running the line as an Assistant Referee, he approaches every game with enthusiasm, a positive attitude, and a genuine love for football.

Hari enjoys the unique challenges that come with officiating. Every match is different, and it's that combination of applying the Laws of the Game, working with players, and making decisions under pressure that keeps him coming back each week. For him, refereeing isn't just about making calls—it's about helping create an environment where everyone can enjoy the game.

One of the things that stands out most about Hari is his willingness to help. If there's an uncovered fixture or someone is needed at short notice, he's often one of the first to put his hand up. His weekends usually begin by refereeing Awatapu College school matches on Saturday mornings before heading off to senior football, where he often officiates multiple games in a single day. No matter how busy the schedule is, Hari is always seen with a smile and a positive attitude.

His commitment to football doesn't stop there. Hari is always happy to assist at Masters tournaments, Secondary School tournaments, or any other event where referees are needed. His focus is simple—to help ensure every game is played safely, fairly, and in the right spirit.

Away from his own appointments, Hari has also become a fantastic role model for Central Football's young Green Shirt Referees. He regularly takes the time to watch their games, offer encouragement, share advice, and help build their confidence as they begin their own refereeing journeys. That willingness to give back and support others speaks volumes about the person he is.
