Massey FC - Lotto Federation Cup Winners 2019

Hello Men’s Federation Cup Teams for 2019

After a campaign that started back on the 11th of May we finally crowned our 2019 Champions on the weekend as Massey FC defeated Gisborne United 3-2 over at Harry Barker Reserve in Gisborne. The decision to have the Semi-Finals and Final at a home ground rather than a neutral venue was certainly correct as a huge local crowd turned up to watch the exciting match. Both teams battled hard in the first half but Gisborne United headed into the break with the 1-0 advantage after Jarom Brouwer smashed home a goal in the 37thminute. Massey came out in the second half and were able to finally break through the strong United defence in the 61st minute when Joseph Freeman went around the keeper to equalise. Then a fantastic strike from Massey Captain Angus Preston 71 minutes in put the visitors ahead before Rhys Galyer got an important two goal buffer in the 78th minute. The buffer was definitely needed as Joshua Adams was able to get Gisborne back into the match after he slotted home a penalty kick in the 90th minute to set up an enthralling finish but Gisborne couldn’t quite get another goal to send the match to extra time. Thank you Gisborne United for being such amazing hosts on the day as it was such a great event to be a part of and attend.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all 26 teams that made up the competition this season. It was great to get so many teams from all five Central Football regions competing this year and we look forward to you all having another crack  in 2020 as we look to continue to increase team numbers in our premium knockout cup competition.

Once again congratulations Massey FC who add the 2019 title to the one they won in 2017 .
