Key Upcoming Dates:
Registration – open to all ages/options of the game – online www.sporty.co.nz/darfieldnetballclub from Monday 19th February
Player Training - will be advised once registrations and number of teams are known
Weekly Requirements of Members:
On a playing Saturday, each team needs to provide the following:
Ø One “bench person” to undertake either the electronic score board timing/scoring or official ‘yellow’ card
scoring duties. This can be a parent, grandparent, sibling of suitable age, or friends. It is up to each team to
ensure that there is someone available to do this duty each game.
No matter which of these duties a person is doing, remember to keep an eye on the other person to ensure
they are recording the score correctly.
Ø One “first aid person” to wear the designated arm band to identify themselves as the person who
will undertake any first aid requirements for the team, being the primary person who can go on to
the court to assist an injured player. There are a handful of rules which relate to this which will be
provided to the person(s) who offer to undertake this role.
In addition to the duties above, it would be great to see each Saturday team with a ‘team manager’ who can assist the coach during the season.
Junior Netball:
Year 1 to 4 - ten week programme will be held over Term 2 on Monday afternoons 3.45 pm to 4.45 pm (as per previous years) - starting Monday 29th April.
Year 5 & 6 - playing on Saturdays in teams and the 6-aside game. Teams may practice once during the week (this will be organised between the team coach and the players) - starting Saturday 4th May. Players are placed into teams with a coach.
Year 7 & 8 - playing on Saturdays and the 7-aside game. Teams may practice once during the week (this will be organised between the team coach and the players) - starting Saturday 4th May.
Each club is required to provide trained helpers/coaches. Helpers are to undertake a training course to be able to deliver the prescribed programmes. Attending the training will provide helpers with the relevant resources, and there is no need to have any prior netball experience to become a helper.
For Year 1 to 4 the number of helpers required is based on the number of players in each of the two age groups - ratio being 1 helper to 5 registered players.
If a helper/coach has already completed this training in the last couple of years, then there is no requirement to complete the training again this year. For anyone wanting to be a helper/coach there is training available.
Year 9 to Senior Playing Options:
Options available to play at the Malvern Netball Centre this year.
Ø High School grade - played on Saturdays starting Saturday 4th May.
Note: Work is being undertaken to establish a High School grade catering for year 9 to year 11/12 players who do not want to play with adults in the social grade or trial and play in the Malvern teams over in the Selwyn Netball Centre competition.
If you are interested in this options please register so we can gauge the numbers and viability of this option.
Ø Social - played on Saturdays starting Saturday 4th May.
Ø Walking Netball - all the fun of running netball, but without the pressure and jarring on the body.
Great option for those with long-term injuries that prevent people from playing the running format.
Full details still to be confirmed, but taking registrations.
Fundraising Activities:
Fundraising is a very key component of keeping the subs as low as possible. Without this, subs would need to be substantially increased. This is covered in a number of different ways:
Ø Weekly BBQ on Saturdays
- this option depends on the format/timeframe able to be run this season. If we are able to
undertake this activity, each family from teams playing on Saturdays is asked to carry out one shift
during the season - roster will be circulated prior to the start of the season.
Ø Shop - open on playing Saturdays.
Ø Catering
- undertaken as/when engaged. Players/parents are asked to please help where you possibly
can - this could be to make food during the day, to assisting with serving/delivery of catering for
various different occasions.
Ø Other - there are also other fundraising initiatives undertaken from time to time.
Details and requests for assistance would be circulated as/when necessary.
