Guidelines for Umpires

  • Selwyn Netball Centre would like all umpires to wear white. These can be borrowed from the Umpires Room, which doubles as a changing room.

  • One of the umpires collects the score card and box containing ball, timers etc. from the Office and meets the other umpire at the court. After the game, the box and score card are returned to the office.

  • Office staff will put out an announcment if your co-umpire has not arrived on time.

  • There is always a Duty Umpire at the courts who can help with any match problems. If nessesary, umpires can call time and fetch the Duty Umpire to assist.

  • Ask someone from each team to time keep and keep the score. These two people must stand or sit side by side aand cross off the goal number once the umpire whistles that a goal is scored.

  • Ensure spectators are back from the side line.  No prams, skateboards or dogs are allowed on the courts.

  • No one is allowed to verbally coach or support from the ends of the court, only from the side line.

  • Other than Premier and Premier Reserve Grades, all games are 10 minute quarters with 1 min, 3 min, 1 min breaks between.

  • Throughout the game make note on the score card of all the playerswho take the court. Each team should notify you of any changes at breaks.

  • Selwyn has a zero tolerance for abuse of umpires and will give full support to all umpires with this
