From humble beginnings in the mid 1960’s Durie Hill Football Club has grown over the past 60 years to what it is today.
Four generations of the Mackenzie family have been involved with the club from the very beginning – from a small Durie Hill School team, to now, a not-for-profit, fully volunteer run incorporated Club, with over 100 players.
A Bit of History
Ian Mackenzie, founded the Durie Hill Football Club in 1965, setting it up initially so his son, Gary MacKenzie, could play football with his friends, as it wasn’t a sport offered at Durie Hill School. After starting out as a player, all those years ago, Gary MacKenzie is now a life member and Committee Member for the Club.
In 2015, Kylie MacKenzie (Ian’s Granddaughter and Current Club President) began her involvement with the club after being handed a box full of documents and uniforms and told that there was no one to look after the club anymore.
The decision to ensure that the Durie Hill Football Club would continue was easy, with Kylie having children that both played the game and attended Durie Hill School, not to mention the joy she gets in seeing all of our Cub superstars out playing with friends, developing their skills, and having fun enjoying our beautiful game ⚽
Where are we now
For nearly 60 years, the Durie Hill Football Club was Junior only, but in 2022 we had our first Senior Men’s team followed by a Women’s team in 2023 which was amazing, and we would love to re-establish Senior teams again in the future.
For now, our Junior and Youth teams continue to grow for both Winter Football and the ever increasingly popular, Futsal.
