In 1906 Andersons Bay Lawn Tennis Club was incorporated, situated on the corner of Marne and Somerville Street. William Somerville was one of the founding members with the club having 9 grass tennis courts. It was also the headquarters of Otago Tennis until in 1926 it was moved to Logan Park after the South Seas Exhibition.

Tennis was a real part of the community throughout the years and many people put a great deal of time and effort into making it a successful club. The club had many successful tennis players, notably Margaret Borland (nee Rennie). She was the club champion every year from 1960 to 1975, represented Otago and won a national doubles title during the 1960s. Margaret Borland is a Life Member of our club.

In 1995 the club started sharingits club rooms with Ariki Harriers and Athletics. A small of club members joined both clubs doing Harriers in the winter and tennis in the summer. A proposal to build a joint facility on the Marne street site was explored. At the time an option to build at Bayfield High school site was explored and it provided the school, Ariki and the tennis club an option whereby it could get year round use and also be a real asset to the community. It was completed in 1998 and was named the Guthrie Pavilion to acknowledge the contribution of the Guthrie family to the Pavilion, to Otago tennis and to the Andersons Bay community.

The club has won the Dunedin Interclub title many times with players such as Bill McAuley, Grant Webb, Lester Nauman, Robin Bates, and John Guthrie.  In 2010-11 season we won the Premier Men, Premier Women and Boys open and Girls open grades.  Last season we were runners up in Premier Men and Premier Women and were very well represented in the Seniors and Juniors for Otago.

We look forward to another successful season.
